The CVE queue grew. Where does your remediation clock start?
Counting installed patches does not show where a decision stalled. Connect each relevant advisory to an asset, an owner and a verified outcome.

The count describes disclosures analyzed by GTIG
In its September 30, 2026 analysis, Google’s GTIG reported 10,740 vulnerabilities disclosed in August across multiple vendors. It distinguishes disclosure from observed exploitation and acknowledges limits in attributing discoveries to AI. The analysis below uses that context to review business decisions.
An advisory becomes a task when it maps to an asset
Imagine a team receiving a relevant bulletin but needing three departments to discover where the product is installed. The first delay occurs before any maintenance window. Associate the advisory with the product, version, owner and observed access path. When that match remains uncertain, record the question preventing a decision.
Include test instances, supplier-managed services and resources missing from the usual inventory. Our cloud configuration analysis helps examine exposure and trust relationships. Identify the service requiring a decision, with evidence and limitations, without classifying every record by the same abstract criterion.
Track four milestones in a sample of the queue
Choose advisories and assets the company is authorized to assess. Record each stage’s timing and the reason for waits. Compare a well-executed task with one that became blocked to identify which process difference can be corrected.
- Receipt: identify the source, advisory date and person or integration forwarding it. Preserve the version used for the decision.
- Scoping: confirm the affected asset, exposure condition and person accepting the priority. State which assumptions remain unverified.
- Action: record the authorized update, restriction or temporary measure, its owner and expected effect. An exception needs a review deadline.
- Validation: check the resulting configuration and selected risk scenario, alongside the legitimate function that must continue operating. Record outstanding retest work.
A temporary measure needs an ending
If an update cannot be applied at that point, describe the approved measure and the exposure it intends to limit. Test only the effect observable within scope. Define who follows up with the supplier and what would prompt an earlier review, such as an exposure change or new evidence.
Avoid automatically closing an item when an installation command finishes. Our analysis of pentest evidence complements acceptance: a conclusion needs a condition, result and limitations. The record should distinguish demonstrated remediation from a temporary control still being monitored.
Use measurement to remove the right obstacle
Separate time spent locating the asset, deciding priority, preparing the change and checking the outcome. One average may hide that the same supplier responds slowly or that a department lacks a defined decision owner. Turn the observed blockage into a task with an owner and completion criterion.
Pentesty’s analysis is that the queue should support decisions about access paths and business effects. Review priority when evidence, configuration or service use changes. An exercise represents selected scenarios; preserve its history to repeat assessment after a change and explain what remains outstanding.
Frequently asked questions
How should an aggregate count inform triage?
Use the context to review the process. Before creating a task, connect the advisory to the asset, exposure condition and person responsible for the decision in your company.
Does the volume establish that AI discovered every flaw?
Do not use an aggregate volume to decide each finding’s origin. In your assessment, record each observation’s source and the evidence allowing it to be checked.
What if an update cannot be applied yet?
Document the decision, authorized temporary measure and intended result. Define an owner, deadline and conditions requiring reassessment, checking the effect observable within scope.
Which metric helps find delays?
Compare asset-scoping, decision, execution and validation time. Record why tasks waited and the sample’s limitations so the identified process blockage can be corrected.
