Pillow and Claude: how do you accept a security finding?
An AI response needs to become a reviewable record. Separate the observed result, impact conditions and evidence that the fix reached the service.

Keep each discovery linked to its advisory
The Cyber Security Brazil report prompted this analysis. In the JPEG advisory, CVE-2026-112403, maintainers credit Anthropicâs Claude with discovery and Ada Logics with manual validation. The report demonstrates memory corruption in a thumbnail path under specific conditions; that demonstration does not establish code execution or exploitation at companies.
The TIFF advisory, CVE-2026-112393, describes a separate flaw originating in 2013. Its code-execution demonstration depends on addresses obtained through another flaw. This document does not name Anthropic as the discoverer; the age of the TIFF flaw and the explicit credit in the JPEG case should remain separate.
Request a record that outlasts the model conversation
When an AI tool flags a problem, request the component and revision examined, the operation, prerequisites and observed result. Name whoever confirmed each part. A conclusion lacking these elements still needs investigation before guiding product changes or customer communications.
The team should be able to reconstruct the decision without relying on the private history of whoever used the tool. The assessment of AI code rewrites complements this discipline by verifying delivered behavior. Here, acceptance concerns the finding itself: which assertion received support and which remains a hypothesis.
Choose language proportionate to the result
A process that terminated unexpectedly, confirmed unauthorized access and a possibility of code execution require their own descriptions. Ask the reviewer to distinguish observation from inference. If impact depends on another condition, record who will verify that condition, in which environment and with what authorization.
This supports prioritization without turning a limited technical conclusion into an incident narrative. It also avoids closing a finding simply because the tool offered a persuasive explanation. The application owner needs a supported decision, including uncertainties that could still change how the issue is handled.
Connect the change to the service that received it
Commit 242a059 adds a check in the JPEG decoder and a test. The Pillow 13.0.0 release notes date the version to October 16 and list both advisories; those advisories identify 13.0.0 as fixed. A merged commit, a published release and an updated service provide evidence of different stages.
For enterprise acceptance, identify the deployed image or package and the process serving the relevant operation. Include background workers and replicas when they participate in the workflow. Keep the verification time and exceptions. A change in the dependency file alone leaves open which code the service is actually executing.
Close with an owner and visible outstanding work
Vulnerability triage helps connect this decision to the asset and deadline. Record acceptance using a verifiable sample and keep open any conclusion that depends on evidence not yet collected.
- Origin: tool used, reference examined and reviewer responsible for acceptance.
- Confirmation: observed result, conditions and limits of human validation.
- Delivery: adopted fix, checked process and observed legitimate functionality.
- Outstanding work: incomplete coverage, undemonstrated impact and next accountable owner.
Frequently asked questions
Can an AI finding go directly into the final report?
It can be included when the assertion has reviewable evidence and explicit limits. The toolâs identity does not replace technical confirmation or the accountability of whoever accepts the conclusion.
Does a failure during testing prove a breach?
The test result describes the environment and operation examined. Concluding that a breach occurred requires a separate investigation, with appropriate records and an observation period supporting the conclusion.
Must a proof of concept run in production?
Define the method according to the question and authorized scope. Update delivery and functional continuity can be verified without introducing exploit files into the service being assessed.
When can the finding be closed?
When the accountable owner accepts the agreed evidence for the assessed scope. Preserve exceptions and record separately any investigation or technical verification that still remains outstanding after the acceptance decision.
